Similar to Covid-19, racial oppression is like a virus/disease. The whole world is in chaos. All over the world, our beautiful black men, women, and children are getting killed by the police.
A possible remedy for this disease is to get everyone around the world to stand up and protest. We could do a march similar to the March on Washington. That was a powerful statement in black history. We could carry on Dr. King’s movement by doing a march that focuses explicitly on the issues of the Black community.
Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech was outstanding. Well, today, I Have A Dream. My dream is for white and black people to come together and realize that black people are not a threat. We are citizens in this country, just like everybody else.
People could talk to their Chief of Police about making positive changes in their police department. Even if we get stopped by police during a protest, we must keep going. When you get knocked down, you must get back up.
We need justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tamir Rice, Travon Martin, Atatiana Jefferson, Eric Garner, and others. We can’t go another day knowing that their murderers are still out there living their lives without being held responsible.
There are so many ways to get people to recognize what is happening in this world. For example, CNN is a Cable News Network that gives everybody so much information about what is happening in the world. We can help spread the message to more families, friends, coworkers, and to everyone else we know.
Every morning, my family and I read the “5 Things To Know” on the CNN app. Then, we have a discussion. If everyone in the world would do that in their homes or at a county meeting, it’s possible that after seeing what is happening in this world, their mindset would change for the better. CNN breaks it down for you in just a couple of sentences.
Harriet Tubman was able to make a difference by helping so many enslaved people escape to freedom. This heroic act sets an example for so many people because it lets people know that you, mainly speaking directly to black people, can do anything you set your mind to and genuinely make a difference.
No one wants their child to come into a world where there are threats and hateful sayings against people like them. We know that this world is not perfect, but we can still change what we know is wrong.
George Floyd’s funeral was a huge event that lasted for more than 4 hours. Deep down inside, if Derek Chauvin, the officer who killed George Floyd, knew that famous people, like Al Sharpton, would come to his funeral, he probably wouldn’t have done what he did.
We need to make a change. We need more county meetings and protests. We need to come together as a community. But most of all, we need the white community to remove their mask of silence. They need to stand with us and speak up.
